Though there are different criteria for each of the posts filled by the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL), the essential eligibility criteria for this exam are as follows.

Essential Educational Qualifications for various posts include:
- For Assistant Audit Officer/Assistant Accounts Officer- Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University and CA/CS/MBA/Cost & Management Accountant/ Masters in Commerce/ Masters in Business Studies.
- For Junior Statistical Officer (JSO)- Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with a minimum of 60% in Mathematics in Class 12th or in any discipline with Statistics as one of the subjects in graduation.
- For Statistical Investigator Grade-II- Graduation Degree from any recognized University with Economics Statistics or Mathematics as a compulsory or Elective Subject.

3. Nationality- The Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) Eligibility Criteria also include the nationality of the candidates. The details regarding candidates’ citizenship are as follows.
A candidate must meet one of the following criteria:
- (a) A citizen of India.
- (b) A citizen of Nepal.
- (c) A citizen of Bhutan.
- (d) A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Candidates falling under categories (b), (c), and (d) above must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.
